A FAR Forest-based food business has been recognised during an event at Westminster.

Forest Pig, as West Midlands regional winner of the Countryside Alliance's Start-Up award 2013, was represented at the national awards ceremony in the House of Commons.

The business operates on a smallholding, from where pigs forage in carefully selected areas of the Wyre Forest in an arrangement with the Forestry Commission.

Business owner Sally Levell said: "This award is helping raise awareness of our specialist charcuterie products all over Britain."

Sally and Jeremy Levell took their son Harvey to the House of Commons for the award ceremony, where they met Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Secretary of State Owen Paterson and their local MP, Philip Dunne.

Mr Dunne said: "The Countryside Alliance awards are a great showcase for talent in rural areas. I was delighted that Forest Pig made such an impact in the West Midlands and can use their success as a springboard for developing their markets across the country."
