A FAR Forest woman has been named the British Stone Skimming Champion at the games held in Shropshire.

Emma Ruffy won the main event with a new record of 40.5 metres, beating the record set in 2010 of 30 metres.

The championships were held on Walcot Lake, in Lydbury North, and included other events such as stone throwing, Roll the Stone, Pile the Stones, Stone the Crows, No Stone Unturned and Stones in the Olympic Rings.

The age of competitors ranged from 1 to 79 and prizes were hand-painted stones, provided by Clive Richards of Mid Wales Stone.

Organisers hope to see Ms Ruffy back next year to defend her title.
