A STOURBRIDGE teenager has cooked his way to success as he took the culinary crown in the district heat of the Rotary Young Chef competition.

Hagley Catholic High School student, Edward Oakes won the local heat of the competition in December but took the top title once again when he competed at Warwickshire College, Rugby on March 1.

The aspiring chef dished up a starter of prawn and chilli linguine with Parmesan crisps, followed my a Sicilian roast loin of pork with roasted lemons, garlic potato and fennel and a dessert of individual blackberry and apple crumbles, served with lemon and lime zest cream.

The year 11 pupil will now go on to compete in the regional round, which will be held at Stoke on Trent College on Saturday (March 15).

Catherine Abbotts, head of design and technology at the Brake Lane school, said judge's took a number of things into consideration when judging Edward's meal, including the costing, planning, neatness of work area and taste and presentation of the whole meal.

She added: "If Edward is successful in the next round of the competition, this would then mean he would go on to the national final in Dundee."
