BRAINY Hagley students are helping to feed the world by taking part in an educational online quiz.

More than one million grains of rice have been donated to the United Nations World Food Programme thanks to youngsters at Haybridge High School, who have been busy answering questions on a variety of subjects including chemistry, geography and literature.

For every correct answer, 10 grains of rice are donated to the programme, which guarantees basic rations for people in areas of acute need, like Syria, West Africa and Iraq.

Michael Conroy Harris, community co-ordinator at the Brake Lane school, said: “It’s a really simple and addictive way of helping others in need.

“Since we started this in October our students have clocked up a phenomenal 110,000 correct answers in the quizzes, which equates to 1.1 million grains of rice.

“It’s incredible how it has taken off. I’d urge all schools to have a look at the website and get stuck in – students love it.”
