UNHAPPY Hagley councillors have vowed to continue the fight over the traffic nightmare is plaguing the village along a section of the A456.

Councillors are campaigning to reverse a new traffic system put in by Worcestershire County Council’s highways department which has caused misery to residents by creating regular periods of gridlock close to the junction with Kidderminster Road and Worcester Road.

Hagley District Councillor and Parish Council chairman Steve Colella said: "I don't want people to think we've let the matter drop. It is one of our highest priorities.

"We voiced our concerns at the time when the new traffic system was proposed and said it would cause problems, but we were completely ignored.

"As a result, the A456 becomes a complete bottleneck at certain times of the day, but it is now impacting on weekends as well. This also has serious consequences for Blakedown and Harvington.

"We had a meeting with senior Worcestershire County Council official Jon Fraser three weeks ago - but we've heard nothing back.

"We won't let the matter drop but it does become increasingly frustrating trying to get previous decisions reversed while the situation goes from bad to worse.

"It's alarming when you hear one Bromsgrove District councillor claiming the traffic situation in Hagley has improved. It just shows no appreciation whatsoever of what is happening."

A spokesperson for Worcestershire County Council said: "A meeting between highways officers and County Councillor Rachel Jenkins will be taking place in the coming weeks to discuss the concerns raised by residents."
