HAGLEY’S Victorian hand bells will get their first public airing since being refurbished at a special St George’s Day concert.

The village’s hand bell ringing group from St John’s Church were recently donated £2,000 for the renewal of bell straps and retuning.

The bells will be put to good use when the Hagley ringers team up with a Halesowen Hand Bell Ringers to put on the full concert on Saturday April 23.

Ringers will be playing a traditional section of music at the concert, which takes place at St John’s Church, Hagley, at 7.30pm, while organists will also be performing.

Tickets costing £7.50 or £5 for restricted view seats, are available from bellringers, Happy Families and other shops in Hagley displaying the concert poster.

The full programme of the concert, where a licensed bar will serve wine and there will be free light refreshments, is available at the Hagley Hand Bellringers Facebook page or www.hagleycofe.co.uk.

Also marking St George’s Day will be the church’s tower bell ringers, who will commemorate the occasion with a touch of change ringing at 3pm.
