MUSIC fans descended on Hagley Playing Fields for this year's Hagfest event which saw a host of talented acts and bands take to the stage.

The event, held for the second-year running, included performances by Butterfly Stone featuring Emmy-award-winning composer Mark Willot, Daddy's Girl Band, Rumours of Spring and ska band The Hostiles.

Singer Vanessa Lee even turned down an audition for The Voice to perform at the event; and headline act The Spacehoppers got the crowd on their feet with festival anthems Mr Brightside and I Predict a Riot.

Organisers Fran Evans and Rachel Jenkins said the event, on Saturday July 2, looks likely to have raised in the region of £13,000.

Fran added: "Ticket sales went well despite the mixed weather. We're over the moon the rain held off despite showers elsewhere.

"We want to say a big thank you to the bands, the hundred or so helpers who turned out on the day, local businesses who supported the event financially and all those that came to the event and supported it."

Most of the money raised will go towards the rebuilding of Hagley Community Centre - while ten per cent of the proceeds will go to Birmingham Children's Hospital Charity's Star Appeal to create the UK's first centre for children with rare diseases.
