HAGLEY Scouts and Ramblers are hoping for twice the usual turnout at their annual bonfire which this year will pull in the pounds for a new scout hut.

The event will take place in the field opposite Webbs Garden Centre, Kidderminster Road South, this Saturday November 8.

Organisers hope around 2,000 people will turn up to the bash, which will kick off at 5.30pm, as funds raised will go towards the group's appeal to replace its old and dilapidated scout hut.

Sue Corlett, group scout leader, said: "It needs a new roof and we are also under pressure to open extra sections due to the growing popularity of scouting and want to eradicate our waiting list, which is a key aim for next year. If we can raise enough money we’d like to think about starting a fund for a hut expansion so we can grow our group and make it even better and more inclusive.

“The bonfire is usually pretty impressive complete with a traditional guy made by our Beaver Section and we have spent around £2,500 on fireworks for this event.”

The bonfire will be lit at 6.30pm and the fireworks will start at 7.10pm.

Suren Arul, event organiser, said: ”We hope lots of people will turn out to support this annual family event."

Family tickets are £10 in advance ,which includes two adults and up to three children, and £15 on the door. Single tickets are £5.

They can be bought in advance from Spar, the doctor’s surgery or Robinson and Sproson opticians; a limited number of tickets will also be available at the gate on the night.
