ACTION is being taken against motorists who speed through Hagley after local councillors and police joined forces.

Hagley and Rubery Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team were supported by parish council chairman Steve Colella as they carried out speed checks using a pro laser speed detection device along the A456 Worcester Road through the village.

A number of villagers had raised concerns about speeding to members of the police and Hagley Parish Council at the latest partners and communities together (PACT) meeting.

Peter Rowbottom, local resident who was part of Hagley PACT, said: “Last year excess speeding in Hagley became a PACT priority for police to take action on.

“Speed surveys previously carried out by local authorities had shown that at some points along the A456 over 50 per cent of vehicles were exceeding the legal limit.

“It is reassuring to see police carrying out these speed checks and hopefully the further planned operations in future will bring about long-term reductions in speeding, thus making the roads in Hagley safer for everyone.”

Worcestershire County Councillor Rachel Jenkins, Hagley resident, has also recently arranged the installation of a further two permanently flashing speed signs along the Worcester Road, which has now brought the total number of them in the village to four.

The latest action on speeding is also part of the village’s ‘Safer Roads for Hagley Campaign’, launched by the parish council - and supported by Cllr Jenkins - last year.
