MYSTERIOUS murder evenings are returning to Worcestershire’s County Museum this November.

The museum, based inside the historic Hartlebury Castle, has run murder mysteries for a number of years and the popular performances are growing each time.

Due to this year's demand, a third murder mystery evening is being organised on November 14 in addition to the two originally planned performances on November 8 and 15.

This year’s mystery is called Downturn Abbey with the event set in 1914, taking place in the medieval great hall of the castle.

The murder happens before guests have even settled down to start their three-course meal, and in between courses the cast perform more scenes revealing details and clues as the night progresses.

Guests, who are encouraged to dress in period costume to get into the spirit of the evening, also get an opportunity to question the various suspects before deciding who dunnit? and why.

Rachel Robinson, museum manager, said: “Our murder evenings are always hugely popular and we are pleased that this year we are able to offer an extra date.

“Guests have such a fantastic time on these evenings, enjoying top notch entertainment, a fabulous dinner and a few drinks in the impressive surroundings of the castle's Great Hall.

“We see the same guests coming back year after year, and some have even booked private murder mysteries for birthday parties and anniversaries, so we know we are offering a quality event.”

During the evening, prizes are awarded to the guests for the most accurate guess.

Worcestershire County Councillor Lucy Hodgson, cabinet member for localism and communities, said: “The huge popularity of these events reflects the effort and enthusiasm that the staff put into the shows.

“They are a wonderful way of experiencing the splendour of Hartlebury Castle.”

Tickets to all three performances, which take place between 6.30pm and 10pm, cost £36 including entertainment and a meal.
