BUDDING Alan Titchmarshes can pick up plenty of top tips when they visit several Wyre Forest gardens open in June as part of the National Gardens Scheme.

On June 28, Gladder-brook Farm, High Oak, Heightington, Bewdley, will be open from noon to 5pm. The winner of Bewdley in Bloom 2008’s large garden category, this plantsman’s garden on heavy clay with stunning views has been developed from a field since 2001.

There are unusual trees, shrubs, perennials and grasses and an arboretum, small orchard, vegetable plot, water feature and nursery with unusual plants for sale. Stout shoes are advisable and there is an admission fee.

Also open on June 28 from 11am to 5pm is High Bank, Cleobury Road, Bewdley, runner-up in Bewdley in Bloom 2008.

This restored garden is in keeping with the Edwardian house (not open) with old and protected trees. it features an original summerhouse, rhododendrons and azaleas. There is also a large collection of roses plus herbaceous borders, courtyard garden, pergola walk and water features. There is an admission charge. Other gardens open in Wyre Forest this month are: June 7 – The Antiquary, 48 High Street, Bewdley. Hidden away behind unassuming High Street frontage, this 200ft south west facing walled garden has four distinct rooms, separated by an wisteria pergola and jasmine arch. it is open between noon and 5pm and there is an admission charge.

June 21 – Hunters End, Button Bridge Lane, Kinlet, Bewdley. This a a third of an acre garden with plants and decorative features which will raise a smile. Quirky displays scattered around enhance the humour. It is open from 2.30pm to 5.30pm and there is an admission fee.

June 6 and 7 – Abberley Churches Open Gardens Weekend. This varied collection of around 12 gardens is set against the beautiful Abberley Hills. Teas and lunches will be served from 10.30am at the Village Hall. Open from 11.30am to 5pm, there is a combined admission charge.

June 21 – Astley Country Gardens, Astley. This range of eight gardens of great variety is within a country setting. Refresh-ments are available at two locations. The gardens are open between 11am and 5.30pm and there is a combined admission. Children are admitted free to all gardens.
