Country music club aims to build on successful first year
12:30pm Thursday 31st January 2013 in K-L
WYRE Valley Country Music Club has been going from strength to strength in its first year in Kidderminster.
The next show will take place tomorrow when Black Steel will perform at St George’s Social Club, in Radford Avenue.
Organiser Tony Hinton is amazed at the success of country music in the town.
He said: “It’s been absolutely brilliant and we’ve got a great 2013 lined up and a lot going on. We have 75 to 95 people each Friday at the club – I didn’t realise when we started it how popular country music would be in Kidderminster.
“You only get out of life what you put in, we’d like to thank everybody who is supporting the club, both members and visitors.
“We’ve got some good performers coming up such as Nancy Ann Lee from Hull, she’s a little cracker.”
Tomorrow’s country music band features Jim Martin, a steel guitar player.
Steel guitar refers to a method of playing which involves the instrument being held horizontally and the player sitting down.
They use a type of slide called a steel rather than fretting the strings with fingers.
This method of playing can be used on a normal guitar but is most common on instruments designed and produced specifically.
