At the last meeting Betty Webb spoke about her experiences at Bletchley Park during WW2 and ‘painted a picture’ of the code breaking activities that took place there.
Her work involved paraphrasing Japanese military messages previously intercepted, de-coded, translated and transcribed. All information pertaining to Bletchley during WW2, no matter how trivial, was strictly confidential and governed by the all embracing ‘Official Secrets Act’. Not even close family could be told anything about what Betty and her colleagues were doing or where they were. It was not until 1975 that this ‘veil of secrecy’ was lifted and the Bletchley Park story told.
This club for retired professional and business men provides a programme of stimulating talks at meetings throughout the year. To join contact the secretary on 01562 515087 or go to www.communigate.
