A NURSING home in Kidderminster is hosting a tree planting and bench dedication to commemorate lives lost during both world wars.

Shrubbery Nursing Home and the Mercian Volunteers Regimental Association will hold a short dedication at the nursing home on Saturday (July 19) at 10.45am to remember residents and members of the B Company 1st Battalion the Mercian Volunteers.

From 11am Graham Bird, association chairman, will provide a welcome, which will be followed by the Exhortation.

Last post will be played as the association's standards are lowered on to the bench before the regimental prayer is said.

Lt Col Keith Jeavons, association president, will dedicate the bench and the tree before handing them over to the owners of the nursing home.

June Hedges said: “The bench and tree will be planted in our front garden as the home used to be the headquarters of the Mercian Volunteers.

“We have a good relationship with the group and their members come regularly to the home to spend time with our residents.”
