A KIDDERMINSTER shopkeeper is lacing up his running shoes in a bid to raise money for a children’s charity.

Russ Kelsall, owner of Cartridge Warehouse, in Worcester Street, is taking part in two half marathons over the next two weekends for Rainbows Trust Children’s Charity.

His first is the Royal Parks Half Marathon in London this Sunday before he takes to the streets of Birmingham for the Bupa Great Run on October 19.

Russ said: “I did the Birmingham half a few years ago as a way to keep fit and challenge myself, but this year I decided to do a couple in the hope of raising money for charity.

“The Birmingham race is the most local to where I live, while I liked the look of the London event as the run takes you past Buckingham Palace and you can take in all the views and sites, so that one will be nice.”

He aims to raise as much money as he can for the Rainbows Trust – a charity which supports families who have a child aged with a life threatening or terminal illness.

“Having a child myself you love them to bits,” Russ said.

“To have something happen to them that could take them away from you would be horrible. It is good to give the charities which help children as much support as you can.”

With only a few days left before his first race takes place, Russ is now in the final stages of his preparations.

He said: “The training has gone really well. I’ve done several 10 mile runs over the past few weeks and did my final one the other night ready for Sunday.

“I use running as a stress relief from running my own business as it can get on top of you and it is a good way to relax in the evening.

“I have always played rugby and running is a great way to keep up your fitness.”
