A KINVER based children's charity has praised the kindness and response of Stourbridge News readers following an appeal for hosts.

The Chernobyl Children's Lifeline were looking to home 28 youngsters from Belarus later this year for a month and were in urgent need of families to help by acting as hosts.

Organiser Ann Becke said: "We had a wonderful response from people who saw the article in the News and we've managed to find accommodation for every single one of them.

"But the work doesn't end there. There is a constant need to raise funds and that never stops. We need to raise £14,000 every year as it costs £605 for every child we bring over.

"We are also busy collecting items, such as children's clothing which includes night clothes, under clothes and shoes.

"There's also a need for second hand toys, stationary, first aid items and toiletries."

But Ann added: "It isn't just a one-way situation. People who act as hosts to the children tell me they find it very rewarding and uplifting."
