In September, president Olive Broadfield welcomed over 35 members and several visitors to the meeting. Details were given for the group meeting to be hosted by Blakedown WI.

Meriel Williams volunteered to be the delegate to the Annual Council Meeting in Malvern. Various activities were discussed, including events at The Hive in Worcester in November, concerning the WI in World Wars 1 and 2. A group of members were going on the Federation trip to Blenheim Palace. A most interesting and informative talk was given by Richard Kendrick, about his life in catering for films, television and large sporting events. Angie McCarthy, who herself was once in catering, gave a heartfelt vote of thanks. Pat Webb won the TV chefs quiz.

In October over 40 members and visitors heard Dr Douglas Richards talk about his experiences running marathons for charity all over the world. It was a wonderfully illustrated travelogue as well as an education into the pros and cons of running through deserts and icefields.

During the two months 9 birthdays had been celebrated, including two ‘special’ ones and a 50th wedding anniversary.

Pam Lay, a member for many years, and her husband Jim recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

Names are being taken for a visit to the Rose Theatre in December. A visit to Coventry is planned for next summer. The AGM is on November 10. Members are reminded to bring items for the bring and buy stall, also to get creative for the December meeting’s competition, a festive napkin ring. Meetings are held in St Cecilia’s Church, Hoo Road, at 7.30pm on the second Tuesday of every month.
