A RECORD-breaking amount of people headed through the doors of Kinver Community Library during a recent owl showcase event.

The event, part of a new range of community activities the library has held since the Vicarage Drive venue started being run by village volunteers, saw more than 250 people in attendance throughout the morning.

Lynne Westwood from the Himley-based World Owl Trust brought along her feathered friends, barn owl Barney and long-eared owl called Indie, to the library where both children and adults had the opportunity to learn about the birds’ life and habits.

Visitors were also able handle the owls, have photographs with them, as well as enjoy the antics and beauty of the wild creatures.

Katherine Dixson, the libraries community relations administrator, said: “It was a terrific event that really captured the public's imagination, and at times the library was so full that people could barely get in.

“I expect it's very likely we’ll stage something similar in the future.”

The World Owl Trust is currently building a new centre in its walled garden area at Himley Hall, to be opened later this year.
