SOMERLYTON WI: The April meeting was a cause for celebration as it was their Golden Anniversary,

President Linda Sprosen presented corsages of yellow roses to founder member and past president Meriel Williams and Pam Upsall also a past president and secretary who has been a member for 43 years.

The speakers for the evening were Mr and Mrs Christophers of The Albrighton Pottery.

Mr Christophers gave a short, informative talk on the history of creating pottery from clay as well as the pottery industry and how it has changed over the years.

Each member was then given a piece of clay with which to create a disc which bore our initial and an item which represented our hobby.

Mrs Christophers then mounted all the discs onto a prepared bowl, together with a 50 for our special birthday. They were thanked by Jo Crowe.

Then it was time to celebrate! Meriel and Pam cut the anniversary birthday cake which bore a group photo of institute members. Pam then proposed a toast to the Institute and spoke of the fun and friendship which has been shared down the years.

Members were given a gold chocolate rabbit as a token of our Golden Anniversary.

Final details for our Celebration meal which will be held at Bewdley Pines, members were encouraged to wear something gold or yellow.

Sue Jennings then read the minutes from the Formation Meeting of Somerleyton in April 1967, when 48 ladies enrolled and became the founder members of our institute.

The May meeting will be the Resolution meeting when Pam Upsall and Di Ferris will present the resolutions. There will be a bring and buy stall and a light supper will be served.
