AN optical products company in Kidderminster paid for a hospice's patients to enjoy a day out on Severn Valley Railway.

Staff at Lens on Line, on Vale Industrial Estate in Stourport Road, organised a fun day after visiting Kemp Hospice, which works with people with life-limiting illnesses.

Lens on Line’s workforce of 130 staff worked together to organise the fun day attractions, which included birds of prey, inflatable games and live music, as well as a football match, at Kidderminster Carolians Rugby Club.

Proceeds went towards the railway trip.

Lens on Line operations director, Kevin Murrall, said: “Everyone from Lens on Line was involved, with everything organised within six weeks, from start to finish, and we were all delighted with the end result.

"The company is now looking forward to exceeding this year’s fundraising efforts for Kemp at next year’s event.” The company’s fundraising event paid for 24 hospice patients to take the trip on the railway.

Head of care at Kemp Hospice, Sue Harrison, said: “We are very grateful to everyone from Lens on Line for funding this year’s trip.

“Although it is a reasonably short journey, it is one which our often very fatigued patients can enjoy very much, as there is minimal walking involved.

"The train carriages accommodate wheelchairs for those who need them and patients from the local area enjoy reminiscing and chatting as we go from station to station.”
