WYRE Forest Historical Research Group will teach local residents how to trace their First World War ancestors on Saturday, September 13 at Kidderminster Town Hall.

Sessions will form part of The People’s War 1914-1918: Kidderminster Remembers – an event organised by Kidderminster Heritage Opportunities Group – and include a display and two online demonstrations.

The historical research group will then host a talk by Ross McNeill about RAF and ATA Records 1918-1945 on Tuesday, September 16 at 2pm, again in the town hall.

Gay Hill, the professional genealogist who will lead the family history demonstrations, said: "September seems to have a wartime theme for us this year. As well as the display in the town hall, I will be giving two online demonstrations to help people trace their Great War ancestors.

“Following on from the September 13 event, our group's activities on September 16 will feature a talk about the history and evolution of the RAF, which started as the Royal Flying Corps, and how to research some of the records.

“Ross McNeill, our speaker, will also talk about some of the stories he has unearthed, including the crash of Captain Rosamund King Everard Steenkamp between Button Oak and Arley.

“It should be a most intriguing talk."
