WYRE Forest is being tidied up with the help of the Wombles over the next month, and one of the first clean up events in the calendar takes place in Kidderminster this weekend.

At the Dowles Road Community Centre between 9am and 1pm on Saturday (October 11), members of the YMCA, Wyre Forest District Councillor Michael Wrench, as well as year 10 students and staff of Baxter College will be taking part and hosting various activities.

The Tidy Up event features a treasure hunt litter pick where families can search the estate for the Golden Rubbish signs while you fill your bin bags.

The signs will include a golden crisp packet, a golden half eaten chocolate bar and a golden bent wheel, and the team with the most signs found, as well as the team who collects the most rubbish, will win prizes.

An eco-art session will encourage young people and families to recycle through decorating their own recycle bin that they can take home with them and includes prizes for the best bins.

There will also be a photo competition which will ask the community to focus on the benefits of picking up litter through before and after photographs or highlighting attractive areas of the estates.

Winning pictures will be used to create artwork to be displayed within the community centre.

The event will also include a community cafe, free dog clipping and a chance to win tickets to the West Midland Safari Park.
