A KIDDERMINSTER school at the centre of a “discrimination” storm is being investigated for alleged maladministration, the Shuttle can reveal.

St Mary’s C of E Primary School, in Stoney Lane, is under investigation by the Standards and Testing Agency (STA), which is part of the Department for Education, for maladministration of SATs exams sat by Year 6 pupils in May this year.

A parent, who asked not to be named for fear of reprisal, claimed her son had still not received his SATs results 13 weeks since they were sent back to schools by the different examining bodies because the school allegedly did not submit their tests on time for grading.

She added: “My son has just left St Mary’s and has gone to Wolverley High and I have still not received his SATs results.

“When parents asked why, we were told they would be posted to us but we haven’t received anything. There are rumours they haven’t sent off their tests but I don’t know for sure.

“I think it’s out of order as the kids studied hard and stressed themselves out over these tests and were in school by 8am every day for a week for breakfast and extra work and the school couldn’t get their results in on time.”

The school did inform parents there had been a technical problem and classroom assessments would be forwarded on to their ongoing school, however this has still not happened.

It is also alleged that staff at the school were instructed by management to allocate children double the allotted time to sit each exam and that the school claimed six exams booklets were missing from packs, which should have been checked on issue and receipt, so they had to copy extra books.

A spokesman for the school said: “We have co-operated fully with the ongoing investigation.”

A STA spokesman confirmed the investigation was ongoing, adding: “We are currently investigating the administration of the 2014 Key Stage 2 National Curriculum tests at St Mary’s. All allegations of maladministration of the tests are investigated according to the published maladministration investigation procedures.”

Last week, the Shuttle revealed how the school faced a backlash from parents who claimed English speaking children were left out of a trip arranged for English as a second language pupils and their families to help them in their literacy and numeracy.
