NHS workers who are members of the traded union Unison will be joining their GMB counterparts in a four hour strike over pay on Monday morning.

Picket lines will be held from 7am until 11am outside of Kidderminster Hospital, as well as at the other major and community hospitals throughout Worcestershire.

The industrial action on Monday will be followed by four days of action, short of a strike, during the rest of the week where members will stop working through their breaks.

Unison is co-ordinating the action with the other health trade unions including the Royal College of Midwives.

Franco Buonaguro, regional head of health for Unison, said: “NHS members don’t take action often or lightly.

“For many of our members this will be the first time they walk out as the last action over pay was 32 years ago.

“Staff are on average 10 per cent worse off than when the coalition came to power and this means their families are suffering and morale is hitting rock bottom.

“A well-motivated workforce saves lives so we need to cherish and support our NHS staff who work day in, day out caring for others.”

The pay which is currently being offered to the workers is a 1 per cent unconsolidated increase for 2014 and a further 1 per cent unconsolidated offer in 2015 for those eligible.
