The Museum of Carpet’s current exhibition which focuses on the impact of the First World War on Kidderminster is well underway.

In the Firing Line, taking place at the museum until December 19, also features four focus talks run by the Kidderminster and District Archaeological Society.

One of the talks, The Carpet Magnates Do Their Bit, looks at how the town’s world-famous carpet industry coped as men went off to war.

The December 5 talk will feature stories about the men who headed many of Kidderminster’s carpet dynasties and they and their families took prominent roles in the town’s war effort outside of the carpet factories.

The four talks form part of a combined programme to accompany the exhibition and a key part of the exhibition is a montage of photographs of local men from the town who lost their lives in active service.

Jodie Edwards, museum manager, said: “The montage of images is extremely poignant and many visitors have been very moved when looking into the eyes of those young men who made the ultimate sacrifice.

“Many visitors have confided in us that they’ve had a moment of quiet reflection standing in front of the images and are keen to share their own family stories.

“It is a real privileged to hear these accounts and we’d welcome hearing from more visitors.”

A full study day as part of the exhibition is taking place on Saturday, November 15, which looks at like on Kidderminster’s home front.

More talks are to be held on Friday, November 21 and Friday, December 12 with full details available at museumofcarpet.org
