At the last meeting Robin Hill described the ‘Five Favourite Things’ (actually six) that he would wish to take with him if banished to a desert island.
First choice was the magnificent ‘Witley Court’. Next was his horse ‘Reuben’, but he settled for just the harness.
There followed: a night watchman’s clock that appeared briefly in the film ‘Driving Miss Daisy’, a pair of Land Army women’s breeches, a 1797 ‘Cartwheel’ penny produced by Matthew Boulton at his Soho works in Birmingham, and a ‘Princess Mary’ brass tin used to send gifts to every allied soldier in WW1.
The club’s next meeting will be on December 17 when Paul Thatcher will talk about ‘The Rise and Fall of Jake (Thackery)’.
This club for retired professional and business men provides a programme of stimulating talks at meetings throughout the year.
