On May 9 in St Mary’s Church an enthusiastic audience enjoyed a concert of music by Haydn and Vivaldi, performed by Kidderminster Choral Society and members of the Theodor Storms Chor from Husum. We had a fine lineup of young professional soloists in Naomi Berry and Rachel Crisp (sopranos), Joe Waggot (alto), Nick Drew (tenor) and William Gee (bass), accompanied by The Elgar Sinfonia and Marcus Huxley (organ).

In the first part of the concert we sang the Cecilia Mass, an early work of Joseph Haydn, conducted by Christoph Jensen of the German choir, and after a brief interval came the well-known Gloria by Antonio Vivaldi, directed by Geoffrey Weaver of the society.

The society’s next engagement will be on July 11 at Belbroughton Parish Church when the KCS Summer Singers offer “Music for a summer evening”, a seasonal programme of lighter music in some beautiful village surroundings.
