On July 21 speaker, Dr Pam Craven gave an insight into the history of Wilden village, which is closely bound up with the Baldwin family who owned a very successful engineering business there.
In particular the dynamic and hardworking Alfred Baldwin, who combined running the Works with being an MP and Chairman of the Great Western Railway.
Alfred and his wife Louisa were related by marriage to the great Victorian pre- Raphaelite artist Edward Burne-Jones who designed the stained glass windows at Wilden Church.
Pam’s slides showed the stunning colours of the windows which enhance the church built by Alfred.
