KIDDERMINSTER PHOENIX CLUB: At the last meeting on December 15 rounded off a successful year for the club. Paul Harding of Discover History (Worcester) gave us an insight into the origins of the Christmas we know today. In costume his talk was an entertaining and nostalgic look at past festivities which really took off in Victoria’s reign. Among the variety of items to show and pass around, were a copy of the first ever Christmas card, clip on candles for the tree and a rubber chicken. Most of us could remember the contents of lisle stockings filled by Santa and making paper chains and lanterns in war time.
On Tuesday, January 19 David Rushworth will give a digital presentation and talk entitled “Life on the Royal Yacht Britannia through a crew member’s eyes”.
Visitors are welcome at Trinity Methodist Church Centre, Kidderminster at 2pm. Further information from Katharine on 01299 877989 or Diana on 01562 753355.
