SOMERLEYTON WI: At the March meeting members were entertained by Heather Wastie who is the Worcestershire Poet Laureate, this being most appropriate as it was International Woman's Day.

In 2013 Heather was writer in residence at The Carpet Museum and has spent time talking to many workers associated with working in the carpet factories, hearing their tales and stories.

She has now turned their memories into a collection of Weaving Yarns, some being poems and others songs. She really brought the tales to life and they were enhanced with her accordion accompaniment. She enthralled members, which evoked memories of by gone days and Kidderminster's industry, She was warmly thanked by Diane Ferris.

Flowers were presented to Heather Hickman and Pam Upsall on the occasion of their Special Birthdays.

Letters had been received from Dial a Ride and The Air Ambulance, thanking members for recent donations.

Members are looking forward to celebrating The Queens 90th Birthday with Afternoon Tea at Wharton Park in April and Angie McArthy gave more details of the Trip to Coventry in June.

The competition this month was for A Limerick about a famous woman, which was judged by Heather Wastie with Val Gough being judged Somerleytons' own Poet Laureate!

The next meeting will be on April 12 when the speaker will be Janice Waldron and her subject matter will be All About Pearls.

If you would like to come along the meetings, come to St Cecilia's Church, Hoo Brook on the second Tuesday of the month at 7.30pm.
