HABBERLEY WI: President Greta Mitchell recommended Nadiya”s cake recipe and the Denman garden article in WI Life. Nominations for the Federation Denman Bursary were invited and calendars and Diaries can be ordered. Ann Evans from Franche WI reported on the National Federation AGM. Resolutions regarding hospital dementia care and food waste were both passed. Subscriptions will need to increased next year. Members were reminded about the Bewdley town walk on September 20.

Diane Campbell gave a fascinating account of her life as a television researcher sometimes having to mix with the aristocracy such as Lady Diana Cooper and Lord Suffolk, when she had to dress for dinner. At the other extreme she interviewed a sewage worker, third manhole along Kensington High Street, and the Prince and Princess of sea land on a fort in the North Sea. In Kenya, Diane encountered a venomous snake when she visited George Adamson and she defused a dangerous situation when threatened while making a documentary film in Birmingham. Diane Stephenson won the elephant competition.

The August meeting is a visit to Chatsworth House on August 12. The coach will leave St John’s Church Habberley at the new time of 8.30am and return approximately 6.30pm. Arrangements can be made for secure parking by contacting Sue Stone.

Speaker Peter Riley will tell us about NT gardens on Wednesday September 14 at 1.45pm at the Scout Hut Truro Drive. The competition is for a garden flower. Visitors and new members welcome.
