HABBERLEY WI: WI members and friends enjoyed an exciting day out at Chatsworth House in Derbyshire for their August meeting. It was fine and sunny and the drive there afforded superb views of the Derbyshire countryside within the Peak District National Park. Chatsworth House is of national and historic importance, containing fine examples of furniture, paintings, sculpture and ceramics. The visit gave us an insight into the lives of the Cavendish family who have lived here for over five hundred years and included a photographic exhibition by Cecil Beaton of Deborah, the 11th Duchess and her socialite friends who regularly visited Chatsworth. There were also opportunities to explore the superb grounds with lakes and fountains, a magnificent cascade and many attractive floral displays.

The speaker at the next meeting is Peter Riley talking about NT gardens on September 14 at 1.45pm at the Scout Hut Truro Drive. The competition is for a garden flower. Visitors are always welcome to join us.
