MAMBLE CUM BAYTON WI: The first of our afternoon Autumn/winter meetings took place on Monday 10th October in Mamble Village Hall.

A delegate is required to attend the Annual Council meeting to be held on 18th October in Malvern.

The Christmas lunch will take place on December 6 at Kateshill, Bewdley. Names and menu choice to be confirmed at the next meeting in November, with payment.

We welcomed Adam Greathead from Stourbridge to our meeting. By profession, he is Head Gardener at John Massey's Ashwood Nurseries in Wordsley, but his illustrated talk, a garden divided, was about his love of gardening from a small boy and how he has created a most colourful masterpiece at his parent's home. In his teens, he cultivated three allotments and won several prizes for his vegetables and flowers. Now at home, he has constructed several special areas, each with an array of suitable plants. The pond area, the rockery with an oriental theme, the circle garden, and a dense patio of potted plants. There is a continuous display of colour throughout the year. His talk ended with a slide show of the various sculptures which enhance the garden. Adam and his parents open the garden to the public on special dates in the year.

On November 14, we will welcome Hazel West who will create Christmas floral arrangements. The meeting starts at 2pm in Mamble Village Hall. There will be a celebration of the Institute's 99th birthday at this meeting. The competition is for an item beginning with "B" and there will be a trading stall. Tea will be provided by the committee members.
