MITTON WI: At their monthly meeting, held on March 16, Mitton WI members welcomed Katie from Severn Area Rescue Association (SARA). She provided an informative and interesting talk on the important work carried out by the charity. SARA was formed in 1973 to offer protection for the Severn Estuary and everyone working with the organisation is a volunteer; available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

We were shown promotional videos showing the vital work that is carried out on land and water. The Wyre Forest station can be called out by the police or the fire service and has 22 operational crew that are trained for all eventualities using a variety of specialist equipment. Fundraising is an important element to keep the service in operation and volunteers attend regattas, carnivals and other events to raise funds. Mitton WI members appreciated the skill and dedication of the SARA team who offer emergency help in the local area.

Mitton WI meets on the third Thursday of the month at 7.30pm in the St Michael's and All Angels Church Hall, Stourport on Severn and new members and visitors are always welcome. To find out more please visit our Facebook page 'Thoroughly Modern Mitton WI' or email mittonwi@outlook.com.

The next meeting will be on April 20 at 7.30pm when it will be a members evening with a themed sales table to raise funds and skills/crafts.

Please come along to find out what the WI can offer and become inspired for 2017.
