CLENT GARDENING CLUB: There was no monthly club meeting in June but members enjoyed two evening garden visits to, firstly, Langdale at Offenham near Evesham. An interesting garden with many features created from a blank canvas.

Also in June we visited New House Farm at Elmbridge near Droitwich, a rural garden as the name suggests. Members enjoyed both gardens and, of course, the obligatory coffee and cakes.

In July we welcomed Adrian James to give a talk entitled "A garden from scratch" which was the story behind the garden we had so recently visited.

Adrian’s garden in Kidderminster had been opened under the Yellow Book scheme and his target was to create a new garden suitable for opening under this scheme in under four years. They moved in to their new home in 2009 and the target, successfully achieved, was to open to the public in 2013.

Adrian gave an entertaining talk embellished with many excellent photographs as one of his sidelines is producing photographs professionally for gardening magazines. He began with a photograph taken of their garden the day they moved in and showed a selection of photographs taken throughout the garden’s development.

After proposing a vote of thanks, the chairman and members enjoyed their usual coffee, tea and biscuits following which he announced the results of the monthly competitions and drew the raffle.

The chairman reminded members that the next meeting was on August 25 when speaker Philip Aubury was coming along to give a talk entitled “Conservatory and house plants-survival guide”.

Meetings are held at Clent Village Hall on the fourth Friday each month and anyone interested in either joining or just visiting the club can get further details by visiting clentgardeningclub.wordpress.com or by contacting chairman Martin Grange 01562 883009/07917 184762.
