October we had a good turnout of members when we welcomed Rosemary Winnall to talk on “A garden for wildlife”. Rosemary lives quite close to Bewdley, on the edge of the Wyre Forest. She has a one acre garden, plus woodland and fields. She is a recorder for the forest, one of her specialities is fungi which have been abundant this year. Her garden is a haven for wildlife and she gives them every encouragement, making sure that she has plants or trees that bloom or fruit for every month of the year for the benefit of early insects, frogs, toads, newts, slow worms, various bees, insects and birds.

These included Tawny Owls which had bred in her owl boxes. From a camera set up in a blue tit box, we were able to watch from the minute the birds decided to use the box until the fledglings took to the wing. It was a most rewarding sight. This most interesting talk was enjoyed by all our members.

Rosemary Pope was the winner in both sections of the competition.

Flower of the month and a decorated pumpkin.

The Morgan Shield was on show.
