THE compelling tale of a soldier who was captured in Germany, has been revealed in a book written by his son, Norman Hicks, of Kinver.

Captured at Arnhem is the biography of paratrooper Tom Hicks, who was wounded and taken prisoner during the Battle of Arnhem and forced to work in a lead mine until he was liberated by the Americans in 1945.

His son provides insightful commentary as he tells the story of an ordinary soldier, motivated by pride in his unit to triumph in the face of adversity.

The book also details Tom's early life, from working on the railways to enlistment, training as a paratrooper and his wartime service.

Norman, originally from Yorkshire, decided to pen the book after he retired from his role as an operating theatre technician for the Royal Air Force.

The 288 page book is available in hardback, priced £25 from Amazon.
