Our AGM was held in February, when the committee was re-elected.

A beetle drive, which was enjoyed by all, ended the evening.

The first demonstration of the year on March 11 was by Margaret Walker, her title being My World of Colour.

Each arrangement that she made was of a different colour, with the final one a mixture.

Her first was all white, with roses, carnations and spider chrysanthemums, her accessory was a very large old Bible.

The second was two gold mesh containers with tall canes covered in wool, against which she arranged yellow roses, daffodils and tulips, which were cut very short.

Orange was her choice for the third in a wooden container, two dark phormium leaves were placed on either side horizontally and orange lilies and carnations in the centre.

Next was red, where she used two large, open-centred hearts bound with red sisal, these were attached to metal stands. A block of floral foam was suspended in the middle, into which she arranged roses, gerberas and tulips.

A modern all-round arrangement followed using a large flat dish with tall pussy willow, pink roses, carnations, alstroemeria and lilies, each at different heights.

Lastly a composition of various colours, and after completion she brought out a matching one and then placed them on a wrought-iron bicycle.

Following each arrangement she read out a short poem.

Throughout the demonstration there was laughter, with joking both ways between Margaret and the members.

The vote of thanks was given by Mary Yeates and the arrangements were then raffled.

Our next meeting is on April 8, when the demonstrator will be Arnaud Metairie, with his title Box of Delights.

There will be a competition for members, entitled Palm Sunday.

Visitors are always welcome, £4 admission including refreshments.
