KINVER Allotment Association has remained shrouded in mystery ever since it was formed back in 2009.

Its location continues to be a fiercely guarded secret among the community right to this day.

Such is the demand for allotment plots, the Association has always operated with a waiting list from the word go.

But that didn't stop South Staffordshire MP Gavin Williamson from finding his way to the site recently.

President Margaret Rogers said: "We've deliberately kept quiet about the allotments, otherwise we'd be inundated with requests for plots from all over the place.

"We've also kept the location a secret for fear of vandalism - I know of a number of local allotments which have been hit and the devastation it can cause.

"People in the parish know how to get in touch with us anyway if they want."

Plotholders have created a community garden with the help of local support.

Both the Ken Wrigley and the Anthony and Gwendoline Wylde memorial charities have backed the Allotment Association since its formation, by donating £250 each.

The money has been used to buy benches and fencing.

The secret site has also benefitted from Lottery Funding and support from Kinver Parish Council. In total it has received almost £8,000

Margaret Rogers added: "We have around 30 plus plots at the moment and a waiting list to go with it.

"Some of the members have also surrendered their plots to help create a community garden, creating a hive of wildlife and fragrances."

They are now planning to stage open days and help grow funds, from which they will use to help develop the site further...wherever it is!
