CONCERNED Kinver residents will be keeping their fingers crossed that the installation of security cameras will curb anti-social behaviour taking place in a village car park.

A security barrier provided with money from Staffordshire Police and Crime Commissioner Matthew Ellis through his People Power Fund failed to solve the problem as the barrier was repeatedly vandalised.

As a result, residents from nearby Sterrymere Gardens had complained amount the growing amount of late night activity on the Kinver Sports and Community Association car park at the bottom of Legion Drive.

Kinver Parish Council members were told the barrier had been damaged by drivers trying to get their cars out of the car park leaving the KSCA management with the prospect of footing the bill for repairs.

Kinver County Councillor Brian Edwards said: "I simply cannot understand why people would want to damage the barrier, which is locked at night."

Inspector Geoff Knight, local policing team commander, added: "We have been working with residents in Kinver for some time to tackle anti-social behaviour at the KSCA car park. We did hope the installation of the barrier would provide a satisfactory solution to the issue.

"Since then, we have offered to supply small motion sensitive cameras known as 'Can Cams' which can be placed in suitable positions around the building or the car park.

"We will continue to work with local residents and the parish council to tackle the problem."
