WORK has started to replace the existing bike track in Kinver which is expected to be completed by the end of April.

The original track became worn out beyond repair following continual use by youngsters.

Now riders can look forward to a state-of-the-art four straight track which is being constructed by Ricky Crompton of Dirtworks BMX.

The replacement track has cost well over £23,000 to install, the money having been obtained through Kinver Action Group's fundraising officer Margaret Rogers and her team.

Grants of £10,000 have been donated from both the Big Lottery Awards for All and The Ken Wrigley Memorial Charity.

Further funds for the project have been supplied by Kinver Parish Council, The Anthony and Gwendoline Memorial Charity and from Brian Edwards through his Staffordshire County Council Local Community Fund.

Margaret Rogers said: "The bike track should prove a big attraction when completed and will sit alongside the skate park which was built in 2010.

"It's something the youngsters told us they wanted, so we went to Ricky, who is an internationally renowned rider.

"He is due to be competing in California soon, but once the track has been completed we are planning an official opening event when we are hoping Ricky will be able to put on a show with some professional stunt riders.

"The previous track was extremely popular. I've seen youngsters riding on it before and after school.

"It is used by riders of all ages and there's never been a problem.

"There are entire families that use the track, together with the play area and gym equipment. It should signal exciting times ahead for Kinver youngsters."
