IT is not just humans who enjoy a pint of beer from their award-winning local after a day in the Staffordshire countryside.
Layla the 20-year-old mare also likes to wet her whistle after her daily exercise with owner Sam Ashmead, and they regularly visit Enville’s ‘The Cat Inn’ – which has just been named South Staffordshire’s ‘Pub of the Year’.
It is the fourth time in succession the Bridgnorth Road boozer has won the annual Dudley and South Staffs Campaign For Real Ale (CAMRA) award.
Dan Hicks, 41, who runs the pub with his wife Aimee, 30, said they never expected to pick up the award yet again.
He said: “It is fantastic. We couldn’t believe we had won it again.
“Each time we win we always feel the next year is a bit harder, because you have to up your game as people have higher expectations.
“I’m not sure why we win, but it might be because we are just a good old fashioned country pub, and that is what our customers like – even the horses!
“We will definitely be going for the award again next year.”
Each time the pub has taken home the award, they release a different beer as a way of marking the occasion, and this year was no different.
Dan added: “This year we decided to name it after our son Harvey who just celebrated his 2nd birthday.
“It took us a while to come up with the name, but eventually we decided to call it ‘Two Harvs’.”
