A MOTHER and daughter from Stourport have had their hair shaved off to raise money for two children’s charities.

Becky Chapman, 40, and her daughter-in law Jenny Johnson, 22, got their grade one cuts raise funds to support Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Ronald McDonald House Charities.

The duo visited Finishin Touch, in Bridge Street, on Wednesday last week to carry out their fundraising efforts and could not be happier about going under the clippers.

Mrs Chapman said: “We feel great about no longer having hair and we're very happy that we did it.

“So far we have raised £269 but we hope to reach our target of £300.”

Mrs Chapman said the inspiration for her and Mrs Johnson to fundraise in the way they did was because of Charlie Harris-Beard.

Charlie died on February 8, 2013, from acute myeloid leukaemia, aged two, and the date of the head shave marked what would have been Charlie’s fourth birthday.

Mrs Chapman said: “Charlie spent a lot of his life without hair and I do something to mark his birthday and anniversary every year.

“Last year I had a memorial tattoo done of both Cords 4 Life and Birmingham Children’s Hospital to try and raise money.

“The money is going to the hospital’s cancer ward, where most of the children have lost their hair, and this is my way of showing them my support.”

Mrs Chapman carries out various fundraising activities for Birmingham Children’s Hospital, including running a small group called fairy godmothers of BCH.

She is also a volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House in Birmingham.
