SMASH and grab raid suspects led police on a 20-mile car chase - reaching speeds up to 80mph and running through traffic lights on red.

A total of 12 police vehicles were involved in the pursuit, sparked by a break-in at Worley's Strings & Things in York Street, Stourport.

Eventually a "stinger" was used to bring to a halt the car, two suspects.

A man wearing dark clothing was spotted as he smashed the front window of the shop and grabbed two or three guitars at 1.10am on Wednesday, September 24.

He made off in a waiting vehicle.

A similar car - a Silver Audi A4 estate - was then seen by police in an unmarked vehicle travelling at speed along Kidderminster ring road and into Birmingham Road.

It was tracked by other police vehicles from the West Mercia and West Midlands forces as it sped off into the Belbroughton area.

Officers then got behind the vehicle and pursued it into the Quinton area.

The chase reached speeds of 70-80mph and the vehicle ran several red lights.

In Quinton, the occupants decamped and attempted to flee.

A 45-year-old man from Birmingham and a 30-year-old man from Quinton were arrested in gardens nearby and have been remanded in custody.

It was later found that the vehicle had been stolen from a car key burglary in Halesowen on Saturday, September 20.

Pc Steve Eldredge, who is based in West Mercia Police's Operational Patrol Unit, said: "My colleagues and I worked extremely hard to catch this vehicle in a safe and controlled way.

"We were very pleased to arrest the two men after a lengthy and well organised pursuit.

"Our priority is to always bring offenders to justice and protect our communities from harm."
