STUDENTS at a Stourport school have been using different ways to enhance their learning recently.
As part of National Poetry Day, the year 1 pupils spent the afternoon looking for fairies, building fairy houses and listening to the poem Flower Fairies of the Autumn by Cicely Mary Barker.
Roz Subert, head of English, said: “Using our forest school area to inspire our younger children to enjoy and appreciate poetry is a wonderful example of how children can be stimulated by the outdoors and can experience an increase in their learning capacity and enthusiasm.”
Year 5 pupils at the school had the opportunity to take part in a Shakespeare workshop led by the Young Shakespeare – a team of professional actors and storytellers who perform Shakespeare’s plays to young people across the country.
Roz added: “It was a brilliant introduction to Shakespeare for the children.
“They were totally spellbound by the actors and I was so impressed how these nine and 10-year-olds could follow and understand the language used in the play – none of us wanted the afternoon to end.”
