THE Kidderminster branch of a national women and children’s organisation recently held a floral art event to help raise money for Stourport and District Stroke Group.

Soroptimist International of Kidderminster and District raised £700 for the nearby stroke group as it had provided support to one of its members.

Elke Jury, membership officer for the soroptimists, said: “One of our members, Linda Haliwell, had a stroke about four years ago and she extremely benefitted from support from the local stroke group.

“As a group, we wanted to provide them with funding to help support the wonderful work they do, so we had a discussion about what fundraising event we could hold.

“Another one of our members Janet Ince, who is also a gifted floral artist, offered to do an evening of floral displays.

“Throughout the evening, which we made £700 from, Janet produced seven absolutely amazing floral arrangements.

“It was a fantastic evening.”

Soroptimist International is an which aims for a world where women and girls together achieve their individual and collective potential, realise aspirations and have an equal voice in creating strong and peaceful communities worldwide.

The Kidderminster branch meet twice monthly, except in August, in Baxter Church Rooms at 7.30pm, and hold social and fundraising events, for a variety of causes, throughout the year.
