At the June meeting, Mitton WI listened to an enjoyable and humourous talk from Worcestershire Poet Laureate, Fergus McGonigal at the end of his tenure.
Fergus started his career as a primary school teacher and then decided to follow his passion and become a full time poet.
He is involved in the Worcester Literature Festival & Fringe and works with school children to promote poetry and performing. He has recently started working with the National Trust at Croome Court and has published his first collection of poems entitled “The Failed Idealist’s Guide to the Tatty Truth”.
Members were enthralled by his exuberance and poems on topics from children, mid-life crisis and even shoes.
Mitton WI meets on the third Thursday of the month at 7.30pm in the St Michaels and All Angels Church Hall, Stourport on Severn and new members are always welcome.
To find out more visit the Facebook page ‘Thoroughly Modern Mitton WI’ or contact WI House on 01905 641658.
The next meeting will be on July 16 when members will be able to see a demonstration of sugar craft from WI judge, Barbara Harris.
