MITTON WI: At their monthly meeting held on February 18, WI members and visitors enjoyed a talk from two experienced puppy walkers from Guide Dogs for the Blind. The ladies explained to the group how they had become puppy walkers and the joy they get from preparing the puppies for the next stage of their training. There was a reading of a poignant letter from a person who had regained their independence and confidence after receiving support from the charity. Members were surprised to discover that it costs £50,000 to train a guide dog from birth to retirement and the majority of the money comes from fundraising and charitable donations. During the evening there were opportunities to experience some difficulties that people with a visual impairment experience on a daily basis and how the charity can support the partnership between owner and dog.
The WI meets on the third Thursday of the month at 7.30pm in the St Michaels and All Angels Church Hall, Stourport and new members are always welcome. To find out more visit Facebook page 'Thoroughly Modern Mitton WI' or email mittonwi@outlook.com
The next meeting will be on March 17 when the group will receive a fascinating talk from Howard Jones, toastmaster.
