TWO Stourport teenagers hope to raise money for St Richard’s Hospice by jumping out of a plane thousands of feet above the ground.

Sophie Jancey and Charlotte Gould, both 16, decided to raise money for the Worcester-based hospice, by taking part in a skydive, as they both had grandparents who were looked after there.

Vicky Shipton, Sophie’s mother, said: “Twelve months ago Sophie’s nan was diagnosed with cancer and was ill in hospital.

“She got a space in St Richard’s Hospice and was looked after really well by all the staff there.

“Sophie wanted to give something back to them for the help they gave us.”

Sophie said: “They catered for all my family despite there being so many of us and dealt with my nan in a very caring and dignified way.

“Charlotte’s grandpa was in the hospice as well and we both believe it is such an important place to thank for their fantastic work.”

The duo, who both attend Stourport High School and Sixth Form Centre, will complete their skydive on Saturday, September 6, near Brackley in Northamptonshire, but to take to the skies they need to raise a minimum of £500 each.

They have set a target of at least £1,000 between them and so far Sophie has raised just over £300 and Charlotte almost £600 to go toward the charity.

Sophie added: “I really don't believe my nan could have had a better experience anywhere else and for that I am so thankful.”

St Richard’s Hospice cares for patients and families in Worcestershire who are living with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.
