A CELEBRATORY baton tour, which is travelling the length and breadth of the country, will be passing through Wyre Forest this weekend.

The National Federation of Women’s Institutes (WI) baton will be head into the area on Saturday, September 13, to mark 100 years of the organisation.

Consisting of seven WI groups with more than 200 members, The Forest Group will receive the baton from Teme and Tenbury WI in three Rolls Royces.

The baton will be passed to the newly formed Mitton WI, which meets in Stourport, and a celebration will take place at Wyre Forest Discovery Centre with Pimms, a Victorian tea, celebration cake and entertainment.

It will then travel to Bewdley and board the Severn Valley Railway where it will travel on board a train to Kidderminster, where celebrations will continue at the Kidderminster station at 6pm.

It will then be handed to the Kidderminster WI group by the president of Astley WI, Veronica Herridge, which is the oldest WI in the Forest Group, formed in 1925.
